Chenbro PC-610
Chenbro's PC-610 is arguably the durable case of the newer 'midstation chassis'. Designed by the same team that did the original GENIE, this case was the first production version of Chenbro's new line of desktop and entry-level server cases. The ruggedness of this case is not duplicated by any other manufacturer. The top, right side, and bottom of this case are stamped from one single piece, and the left side is locked in place during normal use to provide a solid box.
Available in both beige and black, the case has numerous 'ease of use' features like screwless PCI card retainers, a lower front fan mounting clip, internal latches to easily release the front bezel, and a unique back lock and catch for the left side panel. There is a set of rails to go with the unusual one-sided drive mounting design. The chassis fan mounts have a combined 80-92-120 stamping, making it easy to direct mount the size fan you want to use. The factory pack for this case comes with an Enhance 300w PSU and an OEM 80 fan in the backboard.
Unlike most other cases in this price range, the PC-610 is deep--deep enough to easily handle ATX motherboards without crowding the cards and drives. The front I/O is mounted behind a pop-open panel on the right side of the bezel, and has both USB 2.0 and audio in and out as standard equipment.
UPDATE: Chenbro has succeeded its PC-610 with the PC-611. The 611 version (and its variants), with a four 5.25 bay lower front and a 3.5 HD rack in the lower front, only allows for an 80/92 lower front fan, but will hold up to four HDs. We see no great benefit to this configuration; it appears to be Chenbro's answer to the increased competition from the feature-laden LX-6A19 (D8000) from CompuCase in the economical basic case market. Consequently, IOHO, the 610 version is desirable for not trying to cool multiple HDs with just the one intake fan--and then cool the system as well.

MODIFIED CASES
That
one-piece stamping limits the case for extensive modification, but given
its orientation to desktop use, that is not really an issue. The first
level performance modifications consists of the lower front
chassis grill removal, trim for the opening, metal mesh filter installation,
and grommets for both the lower front 120 and backboard 90 fan mounts.
A second level of performance for complete case flow puts a 92 intake fan in the lower right front.
The third performance level adds a 92 or 120 exhaust fan in the left side near the back/PCI slots (Mods 3A).
Want
a window? Two are available--the
first is a nominal 9" w. x 12" h window is available and can
be combined with the level 1 or level 2 mods. The second is a 9"
dia. round with an integral 92 fan mount over the CPU/AGP slots, and
is combined with the Left Side-Front 92 intake fan to provide level
3 performance.
So, choose what you want--from a standard factory pack on up to a high cooling configuration with some of the quietest fans possible. We'll built it to your specs.

Note that the backboard fan grill is NOT removed--its stamping is actually a structural unit of the chassis. This version is ideal for the buyer who already owns his own PS and fans. COMMENTS: Here's the mods 2 setup with a window installed. The lower front factory chassis fan grill is punched out, a Left-side front 92 intake fan is added, and all fan mounts are overdrilled for grommet mounting. U-channel polymer trim is installed on the edges of the punches and rubber grommets are installed in the mounting holes. The window is a rectangular one, approx. 9"w. x 12" high. The opening extends from just below the PSU to the lower side frame, and forward to the rear edge of the drive rack, and is trimmed with with u-channel. Solid .125" Plexi is installed with double-sided tape. As of this date, we haven't selected what case lighting to provide with this case--but it will be available shortly--installed, of course. |
